VTV.vn - Vietnam's first batch of red dragon fruit will be officially displayed in the Mami supermarket system in Saitama and Niigata Provinces.
Vietnam's red-fleshed dragon fruit participated for the first time in the 42nd international food and beverage fair FOODEX 2017, taking place at the Makuhari Messe Exhibition Center, Chiba province, Japan from March 7 to 10. This event marks the official presence of red-flesh dragon fruit in this demanding market. After the fair, the first batch of goods will be officially sold in the Mami supermarket system in Saitama and Niigata provinces.
After receiving approval from Japan, the first shipment of more than 1,000 kg of red-fleshed dragon fruit transported by air was handed over to CGC Japan company for distribution at the Mami supermarket system in Japan. The next shipment of about 15 tons transported by sea is expected to arrive in Japan later this month.
According to Japanese assessments, the white-fleshed dragon fruit imported into Japan for several years has had an impressive revenue of about 2.5 million USD, showing the expectations for this red-fleshed dragon fruit.
Last year, the growth rate of Vietnam's processed food exports to Japan increased very quickly, about 140%. Vietnamese agricultural businesses are hoping that fruit and vegetable products such as fresh lychees and star apple will soon be available in this potential market.

Vietnam has 17 businesses participating in this Fair, displaying specialty fruits, vegetables, seafood, cashew nuts, processed foods, sauces and drinks from fruits, milk, and ice cream.
